Introducing Our New College Advising Initiative

This initiative strengthens our data tracking and milestone management which helps MMCO better measure outcomes, identify barriers, and continuously enhance our college access programming.

At Minds Matter Colorado, we know that the college journey doesn’t start senior year, it starts the moment students begin to see college as possible. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our new College Advising Initiative, an intentional expansion of our programming that provides individualized, high-touch support to juniors and seniors as they navigate every stage of the college admissions and financial aid process.

This year, four dedicated Volunteer College Advisors have joined the MMCO community, each with a small caseload of students they’ll guide throughout the year. Working alongside our Program Team Leads, mentors, and staff, College Advisors meet regularly with mentees in both one-on-one and small-group settings to offer personalized guidance from building college lists and refining essays to completing FAFSA/CASFA forms, securing scholarships, and making best-fit college decisions.
Advisors also collaborate closely with mentors, equipping them with the tools and insights needed to support their mentees through the often complex college process. Together, they ensure every student receives consistent, informed, and caring guidance.

Beyond advising, this initiative strengthens our data tracking and milestone management which helps MMCO better measure outcomes, identify barriers, and continuously enhance our college access programming.

Serving as a College Advisor is one of the most impactful volunteer roles within the Minds Matter community. Advisors play a direct role in shaping a student’s future and witnessing the transformative power of access, preparation, and partnership in real time.
We’re excited to see the difference this initiative will make for our students, mentors, and the broader MMCO community this year and beyond.
